The CalAsian Foundation is pleased to invite you to take part in a state-wide trade mission to Tokyo, Japan, from September 28th to October 4th, 2025. With longstanding economic and cultural ties, California and Japan are strengthening their collaboration, underscored by the 2022 Memorandum of Cooperation to boost trade and investment. This delegation will build on that momentum to help attendees seize new investment opportunities and access Japanese markets across three priority focus areas: Resiliency, Sustainability, and Food & Beverage. Join us to showcase your expertise, enhance brand recognition, and engage with high-level decision-makers driving policy and commerce.
This mission is led by the CalAsian Foundation, the New California Coalition (NCC), the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed), and the World Trade Center Los Angeles (WTCLA), a subsidiary of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC). Together, our organizations have a strong track record of leading successful trade missions that deliver impact for delegates and enhance California’s global competitiveness.
Japan and California share a history of rebuilding after disasters like the January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles. Japan has invested heavily in cutting-edge disaster resilience technologies, including earthquake-resistant infrastructure, rapid disaster response systems, and AI-driven climate risk assessment tools. This mission will explore how California businesses can leverage Japanese expertise in urban resilience, advanced infrastructure, and emergency response to enhance our own disaster preparedness and build resilience into our recovery journey.
Japan has committed to carbon neutrality by 2050, investing heavily in renewable energy, hydrogen technology, and next-generation battery storage. California, which leads the U.S. in clean energy investment, is a natural partner in accelerating global sustainability efforts. This mission will focus on expanding California-Japan collaboration in renewable energy and clean transportation, positioning California firms to benefit from Japanese initiatives like the $20bn Green Innovation Fund.
Japanese consumers import a wide variety of California foods and beverages. California staples like rice, wine, almonds, and dairy products are highly sought after, and there is a growing market for our premium, health-oriented and plant-based foods. This mission will explore opportunities to expand trade and deepen supplier relationships with key Japanese distributors, retailers, and food service providers.
