In today’s fast-changing world, young adults face more challenges—and more opportunities—than ever before. They’re stepping into an economy that demands not only technical skills but also confidence, adaptability, and a network of support to succeed. But for many, especially those from underserved communities, the pathway to higher education and career success is filled with obstacles: lack of mentorship, limited financial literacy, and few opportunities to build professional networks.
The NextGen Empower U program is designed to change that narrative, equipping participants with the tools, mindset, and connections to thrive in school, work, and life.
Why NextGen Empower U Matters
Young adults from underserved backgrounds often find the path to higher education and professional success filled with obstacles—lack of mentorship, limited financial literacy, and few role models or support networks.
The data tells a compelling story:
- Just 27% of first-generation students graduate with a bachelor’s degree within six years, compared to 62% of students whose parents have degrees.
- Students living in poverty face even steeper odds: only 11% earn a degree within the same time, while more than three‑quarters of high-income students do.
These educational disparities not only affect academic outcomes, but also ripple across lifetime earning power, social mobility, and community development. NextGen Empower U is built to counter these barriers—by delivering targeted education, mentorship, and access to resources that can change the trajectory for underserved youth.
NextGen Empower U addresses these challenges head-on by providing:
- Practical Skills for the Future: Hands-on training in financial literacy, leadership, and career readiness.
- Higher Education Navigation: Access to resources and information that help participants explore education, training, and career pathways.
- Confidence and Communication: Strategies to self-advocate in academic and professional settings.
- Connection to Mentors and Peers: Networking opportunities that open doors to careers and further education.
By the Numbers
The program’s recent impact speaks volumes:
- 30 youth participants completed the program, gaining leadership training and transferable workforce skills.
- 100+ community members benefited from related events that promoted career readiness, sustainability, and personal growth.
- 90% of graduates reported feeling more prepared to pursue higher education or achieve their career goals.
- Alumni continue to give back, returning as mentors, speakers, and advocates for new participants.
A Holistic Approach
NextGen Empower U is more than just professional development—it’s a direct intervention in the cycle of limited access and opportunity. By blending skill-building with higher education awareness, leadership training, and community connection, the program empowers young adults to not only imagine a bigger future but also take the concrete steps to achieve it.
Partnerships with local companies and community-based organizations enhance the experience, introducing connections for career and personal growth in various industries like clean energy, technology, and more.
